Letter from the CEO | October 17th, 2011
Dear Rain Family,
I’ve been an audio guy my whole life. Despite my addiction to movies, it was always music that captured my imagination. I went to music school, I toured and recorded as a professional musician for years, and I sing in the shower no matter how much it annoys my wife.
So imagine my surprise to wake up one day and realize that, despite its ardently audio beginnings, Rain had become just as much about the computers you use to edit Indiana Jones as the computers you use to score it.
To me, this is a good sign. It means our creative computer tribe is doing what all great creative people do: it’s evolving.
It all started about 6 months before the Beijing Olympics. A video editor from The US Olympic Committee called to say he’d used his friend’s Rain audio workstation, loved it, and could he perhaps have a couple tuned for video so he could take them to China. “Hmm,” we said. “Not a bad idea.” That was the beginning of this whole video thing.
The USOC is now on their fourth set of Rain computers and breakthrough models like our new Nimbus M2 Multimedia Workstation, Venturi Video + Graphics Workstation and the upcoming Element V2 12-Core Video Editing Workstation are in use all over the world. Folks are cutting indie films and blockbusters, laying out magazines and websites, and designing things like skyscrapers and new cars – on Rain computers! How cool is that.
Of course, we don’t do anything halfway around here. So, as soon as it became apparent that this was going to be a permanent fixture, we got on the phone and talked to all the big names in the biz to make sure Rain computers were always going to be the most power and stable platform for all the gear they make.
Now our circle of friends includes Adobe, Avid, Black Magic Design and NVIDIA by PNY to name a few. Just like we do with the audio side of things, we keep the lines of communication humming constantly so we can all test and certify the combinations of computers, software and hardware Rain users rely on every day to make things like the aforementioned Indiana Jones (even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which was kind of a let down).
You never know when the phone will ring with a new challenge - especially one that catalyzes a brand new and exciting direction like jumping into video and graphics production. But just like the creative people who use Rain computers, if we keep our ears, eyes and minds open, we’ll be ready to turn any situation into an amazing experience.
