Windows 8
The new Windows 8 tuned by Rain boasts a 10-15% performance increase over prior operating systems. With an inuitive new interface and enhanced stability, Windows 8 is a great choice for those looking for the ultimate in speed and ease-of-use.

Afterburner™ Performance Optimizer
Windows 8 will soon feature Afterburner (free for Rain users) for increased power and stability with your creative software and hardware. Click the button before you start the session and Afterburner re-tunes your Rain on the fly for even greater performance. When you're done, click it again and Afterburner brings back all the standard features you want--things like anti-virus and Aero which usually inhibit the performance of creative software.

For legacy software that may not yet be support in Windows 8, the classic Windows 7 is the way to go. Tuned perfectly by Rain for the ultimate performance and stability with your creative software and hardware, Windows 7 provides amazing usability and a familiar interface many users still prefer.

Xeon processors are server-class technology based on new Intel architecture that has replaced the old front side bus (FSB) with technology that allows the processor to communicate directly with the main memory. This prevents data bottlenecks and lowers energy consumption and thermal signature.

Rain chose Xeon processors over the more common Core i7 series to take advantage of better performance, reliability and the ability to combine two Xeon processors in a single workstation.

Your Rain computer uses 1600MHz quad-channel memory designed by Corsair for use in high-performance workstations. By using matched sets of memory modules, overall performance is increased. The memory in your Rain computer is designed for high reliability, low latency and low heat.

RAID (redundant array of independent disks) is a storage technology that combines multiple hard drives into a logical unit. Data is distributed accross the drives depending on the level of redundancy and/or performance you need.

RAID-0 is commonly used for professional graphics and video production where extra bandwidth is needed to transfer very large files as fast as possible. RAID-1 provides a redundant copy of each file on a seperate drive to avoid the loss of important files but comes at the price of less bandwith and speed compared to other drive configurations.

Adding a hardware RAID card adds flexibility in terms of the types of RAID you can use (0, 1, 5, 10) and may increase the performance level in both read and write applications.

If you're using a legacy FireWire audio interface from a designer like PreSonus or Avid, just add a FireWire PCI Express 2.0 expansion card and we'll make sure you can plug & play right away.
