Windows 7 is an amazing redesign of the classic operating used by millions of people around the world. To make sure you have the very best performance, stability and compatibility, Rain specially tunes your operating system based on tireless testing and certification with popular creative software and hardware from Pro Tools and Cubase to the Adobe Creative Suite and Maya by AutoDesk.

Windows 7 Pro [64-bit]
Windows 7 Pro is often recommended by software developers for professional production and performance. It also adds features incluing Remote Desktop Client (RDC), Windows XP Mode, and advanced backup and restore options helpful for keeping your data safe and secure.

Xeon processors are server-class technology based on new Intel architecture that has replaced the old front side bus (FSB) with technology that allows the processor to communicate directly with the main memory. This prevents data bottlenecks and lowers energy consumption and thermal signature.

Rain chose Xeon processors over the more common Core i7 series to take advantage of better performance, reliability and the ability to combine two Xeon processors in a single workstation.

The new Intel "Westmere" Xeon 6-Core processor is now available offering another level of performance with a faster 6.4GT/s QPI and a 12MB Cache.

Your Rain computer uses 333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel memory. By using matched pairs of memory modules, overall performance is increased. The memory in your Rain computer is designed for high reliability, low latency and low heat.

How memory works.
Unlike a hard drive, Random Access Memory (RAM) has no moving parts. So data transfer is many times faster than a conventional hard drive. The combination of a powerful processor and a large amount of main memory creates a system capable of more tracks, effects, layers, plug-ins and virtual instruments.

Mechanical Hard Drives
The high performance hard drives in your Rain computer are engineered for fast data transfer up to 6Gb/s. Each drive operates at 7200RPM, using a 32MB or 64MB cache (buffer) to prevent the data bottlenecks that lead to glitches, dropouts and distortion.

Solid State Drives
You can also configure your Rain with the new generation of Solid State Drives (SSD) for light speed streaming. With no moving parts, SSD gives you instant access to all your data. The SATA III connection streams your media files at up to 6 gigabits per second.

The StormDrive optical drive in your Rain computer is designed to produce low heat and noise. Connected via SATA II with a 2MB buffer, you can burn and play CD's, DVD's and Blu-Ray DVD's for backup, file sharing or distribution.

No strings attached
Though your Rain computer includes a wired, gigabit ethernet port, you can also add a wireless card to connect to a high speed, wireless internet connection for networking, file sharing and surfing the web.

The optional wireless adapter has been tested and certified by Rain for use with popular creative software and hardware without interference or performance issues.

A word to the wise.
If you're getting into some serious audio or video production, we highly recommend turning off your wireless. You know, just to make sure it doesn't decide to chat with your processor in the middle of a session.

Do you need more power?
Deciding to upgrade your power supply means thinking about what you want to do with your Rain in the future. If you plan to add high bandwidth expansion cards like Pro Tools HD, UAD-2 Quad or others, you may need extra power.

The same goes for extra hard drives, memory and other components. The more you have, the more power you'll need.
